Effective Piles Treatment

Piles: Signs, Symptoms, and Treatment in Gurgaon

Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, is a condition in which the veins inside or around the anus and rectum get swollen and enlarged. These swollen veins can be itchy, painful, and uncomfortable and cause rectal bleeding. We all have hemorrhoids at the base of the rectum, but it does not bother us. It only becomes a problem when these veins become swollen and enlarged and start exhibiting irritating symptoms. Hemorrhoid is a common condition that can affect people of all ages, sexes, races, and ethnicities, but the condition is way more common in people over the age of 50.

Piles can affect anyone regardless of their age, even teenagers. However, it has been noticed that symptoms of piles may take time to develop. Therefore, they are uncommon in children.

Conditions that increase the risk of developing piles or hemorrhoids-

  • If you are pregnant.
  • Having chronic diarrhea and constipation
  • Struggling with obesity and overweight
  • Spend a lot of time sitting on toilet seats.
  • Straining during bowel movements

Types of Hemorrhoids

There are different types of piles, depending on the location of the swollen veins. The swollen veins can either develop inside or outside the rectum.

External Hemorrhoids

The anus is the canal that expels stool from your body. In external piles, veins start to swell underneath around your anus. External piles can be itchy, painful, and uncomfortable, and they also bleed. External hemorrhoids fill with blood that can clot and result in pain and swelling.

Internal Hemorrhoids

Internal hemorrhoids are usually the painless type of piles. Veins swell inside the rectum. The rectum is part of the digestive system that connects the large intestine to the anus. Internal hemorrhoids can cause bleeding with no other significant symptoms of piles.

Prolapsed Hemorrhoids

Prolapsed is a condition that may develop in both internal and external hemorrhoids. Prolapsed means either of the hemorrhoids can be stretched and bulged outside of the anus. These hemorrhoids may bleed or cause pain

Signs and Symptoms of Piles

Internal hemorrhoids usually do not cause any pain unless the swollen veins bulge out of the rectum. Many people with internal piles do not even know about their condition due to a lack of symptoms. The only symptom of internal hemorrhoids is rectal bleeding. You may notice blood on your toilet paper, bleeding in the stool, or in the toilet bowl.

Signs of external hemorrhoids include:

  • Itchiness in the rectum
  • Hard lumps near the anus
  • Pain or ache in the anus when you sit
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Pain during the bowel movement

Prolapsed hemorrhoids can be very painful and uncomfortable. You may feel pain or bulging outside your anus when you sit.

Causes of Piles

Piles or hemorrhoids are usually caused by the strain that increases the pressure on veins in your anus and rectum. The increased pressure results in the swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum or anus. Piles can also be developed due to:

  • Pushing hard during bowel movements due to constipation
  • Straining to lift heavy weights or objects
  • Weight gain, especially during pregnancy, causing pelvic pressure

Diagnostic tests for piles in Gurgaon include:

  • Digital Rectal Exam: In this test, your doctor inserts a lubricated, gloved finger in your rectum to feel the swollen veins
  • Anoscopy: In anoscopy, a lighted tube is used to look at the lining of the anus and rectum
  • Sigmoidoscopy: In this test, the doctor uses a sigmoidoscopy, a lighted tube with a camera, to look inside the rectum and check for swollen veins and hemorrhoids

Piles surgery in Gurgaon

There are mainly two types of piles/hemorrhoid surgery available in Gurgaon, namely hemorrhoidectomy and hemorrhoid stapling. Depending on your case and complication, the healthcare provider will discuss the options and opt for the best-suited method for you.

Hemorrhoidectomy

A hemorrhoidectomy is the surgical procedure to remove external hemorrhoids and prolapsed internal hemorrhoids. The surgery is performed under anesthesia. The surgeon will locate the hemorrhoids, excise the affected tissues, and seal the blood vessels

Hemorrhoid Stapling

In this method, a stapling instrument is used to treat and remove internal hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid stapling is also used to pull a prolapsed internal hemorrhoid back inside the anus and hold it there.
